Business tags¶
Business tags let you organise objects by meaningful business categories, such as division, portfolio or regulatory purpose, and find them again in search and on the pages where you set up jobs. Each tenant has its own set of tags, maintained by its administrators.
Tags are grouped into domains. A domain names a dimension of your organisation (for example ‘Division’) and holds the tags that belong to it (for example ‘Retail’, ‘Corporate’ and ‘Markets’). There’s no fixed hierarchy: an object can carry any combination of tags from any domain.
Setting up domains and tags¶
In Professional, select ‘Tenant tags’ from the ‘Manage tenant’ menu. In Community, select ‘Manage tags’ from the ‘Configuration’ menu.
Click ‘Add a new domain’, then give the domain:
a name, shown wherever its tags are offered
a description, explaining what the domain is for
the object types its tags can be applied to — data, models, flows, jobs, files and schemas, in any combination
at least two tags
Click ‘Save domain’. The domain’s tags are now available to assign to objects of the selected types.
Note
A domain is only offered while it’s active and has at least two active tags. A domain with a single tag doesn’t organise anything that an ungrouped tag wouldn’t.
Changing domains and tags¶
Domains and tags can be renamed at any time, and their changes apply everywhere at once: objects store a permanent identifier for each tag, not its name, so renaming never disconnects an object from its tags.
Tags and domains are never deleted. Instead they’re made inactive:
an inactive tag can no longer be assigned to objects
objects already tagged with it keep the tag, and it still displays under its current name
it remains available in search filters, so objects tagged in the past can still be found
Making a domain inactive retires all its tags in one step. Inactive tags and domains can be restored.
Tagging objects¶
Business tags are assigned in the ‘Business segments’ field whenever an object is created, and can be changed later by re-tagging the object. Tags are offered grouped by domain, and only the domains that apply to that type of object are shown.
Tags assigned to a RunModel or RunFlow job are also applied to every output the job creates, so a job’s results are classified the same way as the job.
Searching by tag¶
Every search and filter that offers business tags has an ‘Any’ / ‘All’ toggle:
Any finds objects carrying at least one of the selected tags
All finds objects carrying every selected tag
